Lee's 8 45 degree curved modules near completion
Carrbassett River & Northern
Lee Rainey is working on a portable layout
using the concept of Free-mos (see Sn2 Free-mo
pages). Lee's modules will give him the flexibility to
be part of Sn2 Free-mo setups as well set his modules up in an oval for
his own use. The free-lanced layout is influenced all of the Maine
two-foot gauge railroads. The modules include the towns of Kingfield
(inspired by real Kingfield on the SR&RL), Damariscotta
Mills (inspired by Vassalboro the WW&F), Head Tide (inspired by
Head Tide on the WW&F) and Wiscasset (which will be a cross between
Wiscasset on the WW&F and Randolph on the KC), plus some countryside
in between on the curved sections. The setting is in the Nineteen-aughts.
All told, this adds up to the Carrbassett
River & Northern, a layout Lee began building in about 1960, as explained in my first published construction article -- which may also be
the first published Sn2 article. It appeared in the S Gauge Herald.
Browse the pages list below to get a sampling of the
modeling Lee's has completed for his Carrbassett River and Northern
Railroad.
