{Editors Comments: Bill Florent came from Huntington, Indiana to the meet at Gary’s and
he had a CD of layout photos. (The CD was done by Dave Ritenour.) The
layout must be good considering the number of model building contests Bill
has won. (He has had 18 models in NMRA contests that have scored over 100
points, and he has won several contests at National Narrow Gauge
Conventions.) Remember - this is HOn3! Go to the website to see these and
five more photos in color!!}
I don't really know how to start this other then tell you that I'm just
an ordinary model builder that likes a lot of detail. My two layouts are
not big by most standards, so I add a lot of detail. Ninety nine percent
of my buildings and cars are scratch built, many from my own design with
board on board construction.

Some are built from plans such as the "Park City, Utah,
Tipple" built with board on board construction including 6,500
individual shingles. The Park City Tipple recently took a "best of
show" so now I have to build the layout around it....sort of traps
you whether you want to go in that direction or not. The only problem is
that sometimes they don’t fit the layout.

But after a while you develop a method of building these models which
does help in their construction. The big advantage to this is that most
all models end up as contest models, and they do make your layout look
great.

The narrow gauge layout has been under construction for 26 years and I
consider it 90% done. I can still see things to do to it, but they have
not been done. The second layout is standard gauge and is about 50% done.
The problem with that is it is constantly changing with little ideas
creeping into the design of the overall picture of what I want as the end
layout.

All board by board construction!!

I hope this gives you all an idea of my layouts. If any of you would
like to see the layouts, I would be more than glad to have you come. They
are located in a small area and about 12 people at a time is all that I
can handle.....and we have a pizza place next to the Norfolk Southern RR
that is in an old Wabash Freight station and has good food.
