The Quiver River Railway
by Nat Howard
In only 12 months, this railroad has gone a complete
transformation. In January 2001, the old Sn3 layout was destroyed by an
energetic bunch one Monday night. Within a month, there was new benchwork
and roadbed. Since the railroad has begun operations complete with DCC.
Primary power is Shays and HO rod locomotives that have been modified for
Sn3. One PFM C-16 has a Soundtraxx sound unit.
Although the original loop was actually planned and laid
out in meticulous fashion by Ed Cass, much of the line since then has been
built on an "as needed" basis. This includes the wye built on
bridges over the Quiver River. (Does this make you think of an old movie
title?)
Now, Russ Haigh, of teeny, tiny layout fame is bringing
his skills by adding an Sn2 mining scene with an ore interchange to Nat’s
layout.

Nat has some interesting buildings on the layout and many
skilled modelers cannot determine what materials were used in
construction. Nat has given clinics on trees several times, and there are
many on the layout with more planned. (Actually the largest hillside has
just been logged, so that "cuts down" on the number of trees
needed.
