The second door is up! Why all the holes?
The 2 on the right are for access 2 tracks, which will be on the other
side of the door, but behind the styrene curving on the other side.
The larger hole, is for the F&M branch to come through. The
track is curving as it goes through the hole, that's why it is so
big. This view is from the Kingfield side of the backdrop.
The goal of the next session was to get all
of the doors (which support the backdrop) up. However, Paul and Don
were not able to attend, so the limited crew was only able to get one door
up. Tom and Jim cut the holes in the door, while Phil cut the gusset
plates used to hold up the backdrop. The gusset plates were a
challenge, as they had to hold the door 6" from the wall (tracks go
between the door and wall) and at a 61 degree angle. Adding to
the challenge the gusset plates could not interfere with the tracks and
backdrop. It took a while, but Phil came through with a sound design
and craftsmanship. The door is in place! Besides getting the
48" door section up, we spliced an 80" door to a 23"
section, to make a 103" backdrop core.

This view shows the Phillips/Madrid side of the
door. The two gussets which Phil made are seen connecting the door
at top and bottom. Two tracks (from Strong) will come around the
left side of the door (over the lower gusset). The inside
track is the F&M branch, it climbs a grade and goes through the larger
hole, to get to Kingfield. The other track is the continuous run
which goes to Phillips.
