Here is a view of the nearly completed Kingfield station
section framework.
I'm planning to build a Sn2 Free-Mo module set
representing Kingfield on the SR&RL. I'm currently building the
first of 5-6 module set. This section will represent the Kingfield
station and engine terminal. I'm starting with this section
(probably the most complex) because it is a critical part of my
layout. I will be modeling free-lancing the rest of Kingfield in my
layout, but for the later Free-Mo modules, I plan to build a faithful
representation of the prototype location. All of the work on this
section was completed at my parents house. Thanks to Dad for
providing extra hands and ideas and mom for doing a bit of baby
sitting. Later this week, dad and I should be fitting the section in
to the layout. Follow along below, to see the details of
construction. Legs will be fitted into the section in the future.

The section has two "T" beams made out of
3/16" luan plywood. These form the front edge and interior beam
of the section. The 3" to the right of the "T" will
be the space at the bottom of the section to fold up the legs!

This is the actual assembly process for the
"T". The 2x3" board on the right was ripped from a
good 2x4" to serve as a spacer for the "T"
construction. The "T" is glued together.

Here is an overhead shot of the interior
"T". It is only 5" high where as the exterior
"T" is 6". Notice the slot in the upper portion of
the "T". 4 slots were cut for the cross braces.

This shows the full assembly of the module, minus the
outer masonite on the rear. Notice that the cross braces are only
2" between the "T" beams. This preserves 3" for
legs below. The ends are 3/4" birch plywood. Lots of
clamps and an old door as a level working space. This near end is
18" wide, and will have the track 12" from the front. The
rear end is "32" wide and is designed to fit up with a future
Winter Store Section. In the future, I'll add masonite to the front.

Here is a close-up view of a spring clamp (with teeth on
the clamping surface) used to hold two 3/4" quarter rounds in place
at the joint. The boards were slotted to form the joint.
Either 3/4" quarter round or 3/4" square wood was used at all
joints.

Here is a finished look at the Winter Store end of the
section. The large round portion of the section is for the engine
house and paint shop. The covered station will be closer to the
other end.
