Recent updates to SR&RL

01/17/05 Updated trackplan posted and updates to the diary.  Click here to see the my first Sn2 Free-Mo sections under construction as well as layout construction updates.
12/31/03 Latest updates on benchwork and backdrop can be seen on my Sn2 SR&RL diary.
11/25/03 After 2 moves, work has started again on the layout.  To chronicle the work I have added a diary page to the Sn2 SR&RL pages.  The diary is to be a log of the layout, not a specific description of any aspects of the layout.  At some point in time, I will write more detailed pages for information I deem worthy.  The diary pages do include photos, sketches, drawings etc...I write the diary, as my own log, if you find value great.  Quite likely I will not always update this table for every diary entry, so check back periodically to see what is planned and accomplished.
12/26/2001: Long awaited update to the web pages it here.  All new pages show progress made on scenery, backdrops, and bridges.

Sn2 SR&RL

My Sn2 SR&RL is inspired by the prototype 2-Foot gauge Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad.  My intention is to reproduce specific towns and scenes as well as the operations of the SR&RL in 1912.  The plan that I developed includes the towns of Farmington, Strong, and Phillips as well as scenes in between.

Scale: Sn2 (Scale using 10.5mm, HOn3, track gauge)
Prototype: SR&RL (Farmington, Strong, & Phillips)
Time Frame: 1908-1916, focusing on 1912
Track: Handlaid, Railway Engineering Turnouts, Shinohara HOn3 Turnouts, & some HOn3 flex (mostly in staging type areas)
Train Control: DCC, with Soundtraxx Decoders
Turnout Control: Caboose Hobbies ground throws, all locos to have all wheel pickup, dead or plastic frogs
Construction: Sectional, some sections are to move to future homes, some just connect the layout. Sections are foam board based with upson board (no longer available) or Homabed for the roadbed.
Minimum Radius: 30" on important sections, 26" on connecting sections.
Turnout Size: #8 whenever possible, otherwise #6 (Forney locos may have problems with #6)
Locomotives: An 8 wheeled critter works the layout until I have time to convert an MDC 2-8-0 to Sn2.
Rolling Stock: I acquired several freight cars from Mark Harris (he switched to On2), these cars will get me started. Several manufacturers are now producing kits, and T&T has just released a brass passenger car.
