Background

The Waynesburg and Washington Railroad was a 28 mile 3 foot gauge subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Railroad.  From the 1870's through the 1920's the line served its namesake towns in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  After the 1930's, the line did struggle on, but mostly on paper.  Today, all that remains from the railroad's heyday is one locomotive, a few stations, and a few images.  To learn more about the Waynie, read Aaron's introduction.

Several books and magazine articles have been written about the W&W.  The latest being "Narrow Gauge in Southwestern Pennsylvania, the Waynesburg and Washington" by Jim Weinschenker.

  • THREE FEET ON THE PANHANDLE A History of The Waynesburg and Washington by Larry L. Koehler with Morgan J Gayvert.  Out of print, this is the definitive reference on the W&W.  It contains a general history, drawings (cars, locomotives, and structures), as well as a few maps.
  • CD Version of THREE FEET ON THE PANHANDLE A History of The Waynesburg and Washington by Larry L. Koehler with Morgan J Gayvert.
